This weekend brings with it the popular Medieval Siege Re-enactment event. Travel back in time and see the Medieval Siege Society demonstrating combat and a re-enactment of a battle from the War of the Roses.
The battles are based on real events and the weapons used are authentic for the time but blunted to ensure the safety of the re-enactors and the public. Weapons used include swords, guns, a siege engine and the infamous English longbow.
The Society bases their battles on scripts but do not choreograph the individual fight scenes. The re-enactors are trained in the use of medieval weapons and while the script dictates the outcome of the battle, the outcome of each fight is down to the skill of the participants.
And it’s not all about fighting – the public can wander through the medieval camp watching re-enactors cooking, making arrows, longbows and going about everyday life in a medieval camp during the Wars of the Roses.
Formed in 1993, the Medieval Siege Society is a group of re-enactors, archers, and living history enthusiasts of all ages who re-enact the conflicts and campaign life of the period.
