The Napoleonic Wars return to The Gunpowder Mills
On the weekend of July 24/25th the Royal Gunpowder Mills at Waltham Abbey will witness the rarest of sights – The military forces of the Duke of Wellington and Napoleon Bonaparte together, representing the military life of the 19th century conflict known as the Napoleonic Wars.
The Napoleonic Association's British and French Infantry, Artillery and mounted Cavalry, will be in camp and showing the military life and tactics of the day. But not only will the soldiers be there, but they will of course be supported by the camp followers (the women and children of the armies).
British Firing Volley
Exactly 200 years on, in the reign of King George 3rd, probably the first ever major European conflict took place. At Waltham, the 15 years of the Napoleonic Wars will come to life. Take yourself back to Portugal in 1810 and let the Napoleonic Association show you how the troops lived, drilled and fought.
The rattle of musket fire, the roar of the cannons and the thunder of horses hoofs - It will all be here, supported by displays, demonstrations and lectures. Topped of with a final conflict as the two opposing armies clash on the field of battle.

Cavalry Charge
With variations in the programme each day, there will be opportunities to marvel at the skill of arms of the soldiers, see how the cavalry trained for conflict, listen to lectures by experts, look at how the wargamers reproduce the conflicts in minature, and you could even join up as well. Come both days and you will miss nothing!
Founded some 40 years ago, the Napoleonic Association of Great Britain has remained true to its original objective of supporting people with a common interest in the period from the French Revolution to the battle of Waterloo in 1815 This is the so called "Age of elegance" of Jane Austen, and such heroes as Nelson, Napoleon Bonaparte and of course the Duke of Wellington himself.
