Sponsor a Building

Help our appeal

Can you help us to restore additional bays in Incorporating Mill L157?

In 1861 when the Incorporating Mill L157 was built, it was in the forefront of building design and it has survived the change of use over the years - from gunpowder and cordite manufacture to laboratory space.

Part of the building has been open to the public, since the site opened as a visitor attraction, when one of the six gunpowder mixing bays were made useable during the restoration in 2001. The Friends with the help of a Heritage Grant from Epping Forest District Council have restored a further bay, and are currently looking at building a replica Incorporating mill which will be housed in this bay.

We want to transform the dingy unused space of two of the bays into a revitalised area to provide opportunities for exhibitions and classroom areas for education purposes and living history activities.

Planning and listed building consent have been granted to enable flooring, heating and lighting to be installed into bays 1 & 2, but we need to raise at least £12,000 to achieve this.  We are grateful for a donation from The Mercers Company towards part of this cost, but if you can help us raise the rest of the money, please click here and print out, complete and return the attached Building Fund Sponsor Form.

How the money will be spent

To install a new power supply with heating and lighting £7,500

To install a new floor £3,400

If you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid can make your donation go further.  It doesn’t cost you anything and could mean an extra 28p for every £ you give.  By completing a Gift Aid declaration form, as a charity the Royal Gunpowder Mills can reclaim from the Government the basic rate of tax that you have paid as a UK tax payer.

Just click here, print out complete and return the Gift Aid Form with your donation.
