English Civil War Weekend (12-13 May)
Travel back to era of Cavaliers and Roundheads as the period of the English Civil War is brought to life by re-enactment groups. In addition to a skirmish battle there will also be the chance to find out about all aspects of the Seventeenth Century, home life, food, and music. There will also be lots for the children to do with craft activities and interactive shows and games provided by MOD Productions.
Travel back to the era of Cavaliers and Roundheads as the English Civil War is brought to life by the English Civil War Society. The year is 1643 and Sir Marmaduke Rawdon's Regiment of Foote has seized the Royal Gunpowder Mills for King Charles. The regiment will be conducting displays of drill with pike and musket, and the campsite will be open for all vistors to find out about all aspects of the Seventeenth Century, military, home life, food, and music. Younger visitors can take part in the childrens drill using child-sized pikes and under supervision from the officers, and can try and complete the Childrens Quiz with help from the soldiers.
However, the Mills lie only 20 miles north of Westiminster, where the rebel parliament plots against King Charles - if troops are sent north from London, there could be fierce combat as the meet Rawdon's Royalists in battle. Why don't you come along and find out...?
