On November 3 & 4 The Royal Gunpowder Mills brings its 2018 season to an end with a bang with its annual spectacular Guy Fawkes Festival & Fireworks, over a weekend packed with fun activities for all.

Once a Gunpowder factory, this historic site located on the banks of the River Lea hosts tells the famous story of the plot to blow up Parliament over 400 years ago. From 2pm onwards visitors can catch a short theatre production and witness musket firing, taking audiences into scenes from the plot! Plus, there are Family Fun Activities featuring Slime Making and Lantern Making.

Professor Nitrate is on hand in the Mad Lab explaining the science of explosions and a Stuart food experience where you can learn all about the eating habits of the Stuarts. As darkness falls you can warm up with some hot food from our Gunpowder Café and Food Stalls.

On both Saturday and Sunday festivities conclude with an epic fireworks display from ForceFX, the company behind the special effects of movies, TV and music festivals.

The dramatic backdrop of Gunpowder buildings and the amazing history of the site makes this the perfect place to mark the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot.

In the afternoon you can take guided landtrain tours and ride on the narrow gauge railway through alder woodland. There are exhibitions telling the stories and science of the former factory, and an Armoury and display of Rockets. History, science, activities and fireworks - Bring all the family!
