The wildlife of the Royal Gunpowder Mills have experienced a year like no other during our Covid 19 closure. We look forward to taking visitors around our site as soon as we are able to resume a full activities programme.

When we can... book yourself onto this exclusive experience - our special tractor trailer tour setting off shortly before dusk to see and learn about the beautiful environment of this 170-acre site. A majority of the site is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, featuring a derelict factory site, open grassland, woodland and waterways, providing an abundance of wildlife habitats.

You are likely to see various birds, and possibly deer and learn about the habitats of the various mammals, birds, insects and reptiles that live here.

After the initial tour, you will return to base for refreshments and then be taken on a trip round again in smaller vehicles to see and hear the activity after dark. Because the animals are living wild we cannot promise an appearance from all but you are likely to see a good selection. On previous watches after dark we have seen fallow deer, muntjac deer, badgers, foxes and owls. Part of the excitement is not knowing what you are going to see when, and knowing it is a privilege when the animals do make an appearance. We require participants to be calm, patient and quiet for the experience to be rewarding.

You will experience access to the most natural parts of the site and be given the opportunity to have revealed to you the secrets and wonders of the creatures who make the wonderful Royal Gunpowder Mills their home, hunting ground, grazing area and playground.

Suitable for adults and over 14s

Dates will be issued when we are able to fully resume our activities.
