The Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey is an important heritage site with a remarkable true story. The charity which runs the attraction is committed to conserving and sharing the fascinating 300 year history with future generations by providing exciting and interesting educational programmes and family activities.

Professor Nitrate's Mad Lab 

The Mad Lab is home to the eccentric Professor Nitrate and our Science Stations! - Lots to explore and fun activities await during our school holiday events.

Exhibition & Film 

Our exhibition gives visitors a detailed understanding of our 300 year history and the science behind gunpowder plus our 15 minute film gives visitors the chance to find out more about the history of explosives and how they were produced at the Royal Gunpowder Mills.  

The Armoury 

The Armoury is home to a collection of 200 historic firearms covering from the English Civil War to present day conflicts.

Mini Railway
