Coronavirus Update and Survival Appeal

The Royal Gunpowder Mills is closed until further notice in accordance with government restrictions in the fight against coronavirus.

As a result, we have lost our essential visitor incomes and so face a very serious funding gap which could impede or even cease our Charity’s work.

In order to keep our educational work and the site cared for and open to the public we have launched a Crowdfunder appeal and ask everybody to consider a small donation. Please head to our Crowdfunder Page and spread the word and with your help ensure that we pull through!

While we are closed

All pre-paid tickets will be refunded. Our Education and Event programmes are being kept under review, including our July and August Walking Tours. Head to our What's On page and follow us on Facebook for the latest news, and to stay entertained with wildlife photos and historical snippets. We look forward to seeing you as soon as possible!

Please note that we open only for Open Days, Events and Group Tours and conference and celebration hires.

About the Royal Gunpowder Mills

Described by Historic England as 'the most important site for the history of explosives in Europe' this remarkable and beautiful landscape is nowadays a visitor attraction, telling the stories of explosives, propellants and finally rocket motors and fuels from the Civil War to the Cold War.

We run schools’ programmes for local school children.  We bring fun science to families during Open Days and Events.  We hold talks and tours.  Rich with wildlife too, we love guiding people around!
