Royal Gunpowder Mills is a charity sharing and caring for 175 acres of historic buildings, wildlife and archaeological sites. The majority is designated as a scheduled monument and SSSI with 21 listed buildings.  

The purpose of the charity is to preserve, manage, research, conserve and display for the benefit of the general public and of the nation at large the historical, archaeological and natural heritage of the Royal Gunpowder Mills, Waltham Abbey. 

It is a huge mission, carried out by a small number of staff supported by a large number of dedicated volunteers.

In support of our mission we run education , visitor and volunteering programmes. We liaise closely with Historic England, Natural England. Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and other key stakeholders.
