Friends Association

The Royal Gunpowder Mills Friends Association, Charity No 1115237 was established in 2001.  Many of its members are former  scientists and other workers but membership  is open to anyone who has an interest in and could give valuable assistance to the Royal Gunpowder Mills. 

The objectives of the Friends Association are –

  1. To bring together those sharing a common interest in the Waltham Abbey Royal Gunpowder Mill Site. Such interest may include historical, archaeological, educational , social and technical matters associate with the site.
  2. To promote the site as a national interpretive centre and, where possible, to render assistance to the Waltham Abbey Royal Gunpowder Mills Operating Company Limited in the development and running of the site.

Member benefits include quarterly editions of its newsletter ‘Touchpaper’ and a discount on entrance fees.

  • Our Purpose

    The purpose of the charity is to preserve, manage, research, conserve and display for the benefit of the general public and of the nation at large the historical and archaeological heritage of the Royal Gunpowder Mills, Waltham Abbey in the form of ancient monuments, listed buildings and the natural aspect features and bird, animal, tree and plant life.
