Experience Professor Nitrate’s interactive science show, explore our Rocket Vault and discover how to make your own air-powered rockets.

Topic Description

Pupils will meet Professor Nitrate, a scientist with a tendency to make things pop, bang and fizz! This interactive science show is designed to ignite pupils' curiosity and demonstrate concepts such as thrust and gravity in an humorous and exciting way.

Pupils will have the chance to explore our Rocket Vault which holds 19th century gunpowder rockets through to Cold War guided missiles. 

Finally, through a series of hands-on activities, including making and launching air-powered rockets, pupils will have the opportunity to devise their own fair tests, gather data and report findings in a fun and engaging way.

Brought to you in partnership with Ministry of Drama Productions, a theatre production company that specialises in children’s educational theatre workshops. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.


This session is available on site from the summer term 2022 onwards.

On Site Visits run from 10:30AM – 2:00PM (arrival time 10:00AM – 2:30PM departure time).


As our sessions are delivered by an external performer any on site visit cancellation will be charged at 50% of the total cost.
